OVHcloud is Europe's largest hosting company, a French giant that builds its own servers, its own data centers and even its own water-cooling systems. The scale shows up in pricing: the entry VPS packs 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM and 40GB NVMe for $4.54/mo, a spec sheet nobody in the US market matches at that price.
Every VPS and dedicated line ships with unmetered traffic capped only by port speed, from 500 Mbps on VPS-1 up to multi-gigabit on dedicated. For media-heavy sites this removes the overage anxiety that hangs over US clouds.
The dedicated range is deep: Eco-brand bargains, the Rise line from $77 for a Ryzen 9700X with 64GB RAM, and Advance and Scale tiers for serious infrastructure. Anti-DDoS protection is included across the board, a legacy of OVH surviving some of the largest attacks ever recorded.
The weak points are chronic. The control panel is a maze, provisioning can be slow, and base-tier support draws consistent complaints about response times. The 2021 Strasbourg data center fire also taught customers to read the backup terms: replication is not automatic on all products.
OVHcloud makes sense for technically confident users who want maximum hardware and bandwidth per euro and can tolerate an unpolished experience. If you value slick tooling over raw specs, DigitalOcean is the opposite trade.
