Hetzner Review
Nobody touches Hetzner on price per unit of compute. If your workload can live in Germany, Finland or its two US regions, everything else in this category looks expensive.

Our Hetzner review
Hetzner is a family-owned German company that has been running data centers since 1997, and it is the reference point for cheap, serious compute. A CX22 cloud server with 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM, 40GB NVMe and 20 TB of traffic costs about EUR 4.49/mo - a configuration that would run three to four times that at DigitalOcean or Vultr.
The traffic allowance deserves emphasis: 20 TB included where US clouds bundle 1-5 TB, with overage at roughly EUR 1 per TB. For bandwidth-heavy workloads the gap versus hyperscalers is not a discount, it is an order of magnitude.
Beyond the cloud, Hetzner sells dedicated root servers like the EX44 (14-core i5-13500, 64GB RAM, dual NVMe) at around EUR 44/mo, plus a server auction where older hardware goes for even less. Few providers let you graduate from a $5 VPS to real hardware without changing vendors.
The trade-offs are real but manageable. Support is ticket-based and Germanic in tone - competent, terse, not hand-holding. There are no formal SLA credits. New accounts face strict identity verification, and some signups are rejected without much explanation.
Prices did move in 2026: a June adjustment raised several cloud lines, notably the AMD CPX plans, and dedicated vCPU tiers. Even after the increases, Hetzner remains the value benchmark this entire category is measured against.
Sustainability is a genuine strength rather than marketing: EU data centers run on 100% renewable hydro and wind power, and Hetzner publishes efficiency figures most competitors keep quiet.
