BigRock Review

6.6/ 10 - our editorial score

BigRock is a fine first host for an India-focused site on a tiny budget, with cPanel and SSL for well under a dollar a month - but the multi-year prepays, opaque renewals and credit-only refund policy are classic legacy-brand traps.

Our BigRock review

BigRock launched in 2010 as the retail hosting arm of India's Directi Group, was sold to Endurance International in 2014, and today sits inside Newfold Digital's portfolio alongside Bluehost and HostGator India. It remains one of the most advertised hosting names in the Indian market.

Prices are set in rupees and are genuinely tiny: the Starter plan promos at Rs 69/mo (about $0.79 at the conversion rate used for this review) with 20 GB of SSD storage, cPanel and free SSL. Even the unlimited-site Ultimate tier converts to under $3/mo on promo. For a first website billed in INR with local phone support, that is a compelling package.

The fine print is where BigRock behaves like the legacy Newfold brand it is. The headline rates require prepaying three to five years, Starter renews at Rs 179/mo (roughly 2.6 times the promo), and renewal pricing for the upper tiers is not published prominently before checkout. Daily backups exist but full restores sit behind a nominal fee on lower tiers.

The 30-day money-back guarantee deserves a caveat of its own: refunds are issued as account credit rather than cash, and apply only to shared and cloud plans. If there is any chance you will leave the platform inside a month, that credit is worth little.

Performance from the Mumbai datacenter is respectable for Indian audiences, and a US location is available for international traffic. The stack is standard SSD-and-cPanel with no NVMe, LiteSpeed or staging, so treat it as basic utility hosting rather than a performance play.

USD figures in this review are conversions from BigRock's INR price list at approximately Rs 87 to the dollar; BigRock's own checkout blocks automated verification, so rates were cross-checked against multiple Indian hosting trackers on the review date.

Frequently asked questions

Does BigRock give refunds?

Its 30-day guarantee on shared and cloud hosting is honored as account credit rather than a cash refund, so it only helps if you stay within the BigRock ecosystem.

Can BigRock host sites for visitors outside India?

Yes, it offers a US datacenter option, but its network and support are strongest for India-focused sites. For mostly Western traffic a US or European host is usually the better fit.

Bottom line

BigRock is a fine first host for an India-focused site on a tiny budget, with cPanel and SSL for well under a dollar a month - but the multi-year prepays, opaque renewals and credit-only refund policy are classic legacy-brand traps.
